There is no such thing as a recommended retention periods. The general rule stated under article 5.1(e) – “Principles relating to processing of personal data” (https://advisera.com/eugdpracademy/gdpr/principles-relating-to-processing-of-personal-data/) requires that personal data shall not be kept for “ longer than is necessary for the purposes for which the personal data are processed” unless there is a legal obligation to keep data for longer or there is a legitimate interest in doing so.
The legal obligations regarding data retention may vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction so you need to check your local law. Just to give you an example CCTV recording cannot be kept for longer than 30 days in certain jurisdictions.
For the retention periods which are not defined in local law you need to establish by yourself taking into account the types and categories of personal data that you want to keep after the activity requiring the processing ends.
