GDPR on employees

We are a US based technology company. We do not have any EU employees but my US employees may be working on a project with a company based in the EU. So my question is does my employee background company who only does background checks on US employees have to be GDPR compliant?

Answer:

If the company that performs backgrounds checks is not based in the European Union and processes only the data of individuals located on the territory of the United States, then it does not have to comply with GDPR.
