Section 4.4.1.2 Product Safety

Do these requirements apply to all of the Special characteristics designated as safety related either by the customer or by the organization? or only to the designated safety related products as defined by ASIL and the OEM? Do these requirements apply if the OEM has not issued an ASIL to our organization? We make transmissions for Toyota who is our only customer.

Answer:

The clause 4.4.1.2 has really comprehensive and he safety requirements include legal and customer requirements, results of the FMEA assessments and if applicable ASIL and OEM requirements. On the other hand, this doesn't have to be too complex, especially in your case when you are producing only one type of product. In most cases the customer requirements are detailed enough to include all requirements for product safety and you do not need to search any further.
