UKAS and ANAB accreditation

When looking for an organisation to audit our company across both the UK and US (we also have an office in Romania) does it matter if they can only offer UKAS accreditation?  Do you know how this will stand in terms of whether it will hold as much weight as the ANAB accreditation?

UKAS is the accreditation body of United Kingdom, so if your certificate is issued by a certification body accredited by UKAS, your certificate will have recognition in UK, but maybe not in China or Germany. On the other hand, ANAB is the accreditation body of United States, so the same, the certificate will have recognition in USA. So, depending on your business can be interesting to have only one accreditation or both. In your case, I think that it is better to have both accreditations (one for each country). So you can find a certification body in USA accredited by ANAB, and a certification body in UK accredited by UKAS, and surely you can find some certification bodies accredited by both.

Finally, to see more information about how to choose certification bodies, please read this article “How to choose a certification body” : https://advisera.com/blog/2021/01/11/how-to-choose-an-iso-certification-body/

UKAS is a full member of European and International Mutual Recognition Agreements (such as the European cooperation for Accreditation,  International Accreditation Forum and International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation).  This means that all UKAS accredited certificates and reports (with the exception of those related to EU Regulations/Directives and Schemes) shall continue to be recognised within Europe and around the world.

An ISO certificate issued by a UKAS accredited certifying body will be recognised in the EU.

Both ANAB and UKAS are members of the International Accreditation Forum, so a certification body accredited by either UKAS or ANAB should be recognised almost anywhere in the world.
