ISO 14001 EMS Internal Audit

Why do you have to do an internal audit starting from clauses 4 to 10? Yes, ISO 14001 is one of your audit criteria, but what is the purpose of your audit, to evaluate conformity with the standard? Or is it to evaluate conformance with procedures and instructions? If it is to evaluate conformity with the standard you are right, you should use the clauses, and you can do a desk audit checking documentation to evaluate the design of the system. Thank you very much for your reply, the webiner is very helpfull. I now have an idea of what questions to ask during audit. Audit criteria is for both evaluation conformity of the STD and also conformity to procedures. one question is an EMS manual a mandatory document?
