Assign topic to the user
It is important to note that AS9100 does not dictate this level of detail in the standard. The requirements tell you what processes need to be in place, but not how to do them, and as such the requirements do not differentiate on suppliers or what method you use to control them.
That being said, many companies will utilize the use of “Direct” material suppliers and “indirect” material suppliers; where direct means the suppliers provide material used in the product, and indirect means they do not impact the product. You can then either have different control on both types of suppliers, or even state that only direct suppliers are controlled and indirect suppliers do not need control (e.g. your maintenance department can go to a local hardware store for grinding wheels).
